Comprehensive Quality and Sustainability

Sustainability

From the very beginning, the Higos del Viar team has been firmly committed to achieving the integral quality of its fruits while respecting our natural environment. To do so, we have made significant investments in modern, innovative equipment that allows us to strike a brilliant balance between environmental sustainability and the development of a program of good agricultural practices. Knowing that we are working in the right direction brings us daily satisfaction and happiness.

Commitment to Recycling

At Higos del Viar, we seize every opportunity to achieve a more sustainable environment. Our constant commitment to improving our natural surroundings leads us to reuse residual materials from old plantations of other tree crops, incorporating them into the guiding and training structures of our plants. This way, we save natural raw materials and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that significantly contribute to global climate change.

Our Past and Present

The Past

We dedicated agricultural plots to fig tree cultivation where conventional annual herbaceous crops were previously grown using traditional agricultural methods and gravity irrigation.

Our Present

Higos del Viar now employs modern fertigation systems that provide water and nutrients in a controlled manner based on technical and sustainable criteria. This system adapts to the needs of our plants, achieving a perfect balance with preserving our natural environment. Healthy fruits guide our daily work and ensure the well-being of those who enjoy them.

Innovation

The Higos del Viar project is continuously committed to incorporating innovative, cutting-edge measures that promote good agricultural practices and environmental sustainability.

One example is the use of anti-weed mesh covers in our fig tree plantations. This measure reinforces our flagship commitment to protecting water resources as a fundamental basis for prosperous, high-quality agriculture capable of generating wealth and fostering the economic and environmental development of our rural area.

Our Team

The greatest treasure of any project is the qualified human team that makes it possible with its daily contributions. From the beginning, Higos del Viar has invested in every team member. This is why we chose to develop fig tree cultivation using a trellis training and guiding system with multiple horizontal tiers, as well as minimizing the use of ridges or beds along plant rows. This approach enhances safety, hygiene, and workplace well-being.

At Higos del Viar, we recognize the value our people bring to our land, creating wealth wherever cultivation occurs. Our primary interest and commitment are to meet the needs and provide care and attention to our clients, giving meaning to our work.

Ancestral Practices, Improved

Some tasks have been done the same way for centuries, and we won’t change them unless certain improvements add greater value to our fruits. This applies to the manual and artisanal harvesting, selection, and packaging of our figs and brevas. If something works well, we don’t eliminate it—but we can always improve it.

For food safety and to preserve a longer shelf life for our fruits, we have implemented qualitative improvements in the harvesting and subsequent packaging processes. Our healthy fruits are handled delicately by the expert hands of a qualified team.

Research

We seek more natural cultivation processes that make our soil more fertile and our fruits healthier. With this guiding principle and considering that Higos del Viar is a pioneering project with no similar references in our agricultural region, we have developed several trial plots with different varieties. These allow us to observe their performance and carry out possible selections for future plantations.

Food Safety

Zero-residue fruits are increasingly demanded by consumers. Our team is extremely rigorous with food safety throughout production, harvesting, packaging, storage, and final shipment. Our goal is to offer healthy, flavorful, and sustainable fruits with extraordinary nutritional properties and exceptional taste.

Our Commitment

The Higos del Viar team is already working to achieve well-deserved recognition through renowned international certifications such as Global Gap, GRASP (a standard for good social practices, health, safety, and worker well-being), and others.
